The vision of English for a Lifetime’s TEFL/TESOL teachers’ academy is to prepare individuals to become leading practitioners, experts, and lifelong learners in the English as a second language field.
To be admitted into this 120 hour online TEFL/TESOL certificate program:
1. Be 20 years of age or older
2. Speak, write, and read in the English language with a high level of proficiency, meaning English is your first language or you have studied English to a point where you feel comfortable teaching English to others
3. High school graduate
On your online student application, please do not forget to upload a copy of your high school diploma or college transcript, a CV or resume, and your driver's license or passport or state/ country identification card.
We cannot accept any student into the 120 hour TEFL/ TESOL program without the aforementioned documents uploaded into your online application.

English for a Lifetime TEFL teachers’ academy primary goal is to prepare current and future teachers to become exemplary practitioners in the English language teaching field. Our intensive and academic coursework help students to transfer theory into practice. As a student, you learn what it means to be an effective English language teacher and how to put what you’ve learned into practice. Furthermore, we provide continuous professional development and teacher training, for up to one year, after you have successfully completed all online coursework at no additional charge. Will your program only be useful for teaching adults?
No, a TEFL certification will allow you to teach both children and adult learner populations.
Where should I teach after getting certified?
The decision is entirely up to you, but the largest demand and pay potential tends to be in East Asia and the Middle East. There are many other tropical destinations you might consider teaching as well as teaching online and or private language schools in the states.
Should I learn a foreign language before teaching English abroad?
We strongly encourage teachers to acquire functional language (conversational) skills of the country’s language where they are planning to teach if possible.
How long has English for a Lifetime been in existence?
English for a Lifetime was established in February 2012.
Our primary goal was to address barriers in overcoming English as a second language among non-native in the USA. Thus, we designed and implemented an English as a second language program for those to learn or improve their English proficiency.
As a non-native English speaker, can I apply for admission into this TEFL/TESOL program?
Absolutely! We welcome students from all countries of the world to apply for admission. However, we do require the following provisions for non-native English speakers:
Proof of any of the following internationally recognized English exams that evidence your English proficiency and readiness for this course (IELTS, CAE, and or the TOEFL iBT).
We require the following scores:
IELTS = 6. 5 or higher
TOEFL ibt, 110 or higher
Before we can admit you into this TEFL/TESOL program, you must provide documentation of one the exams aforementioned with our required passing score.
We will accept any of the English exams aforementioned so long as the exam has not exceeded five years. If you took your English exam pass the five year mark, we will require that you take a free online Cambridge English Assessment. The program’s enrollment specialist will coordinate time and dates for you to take the exam. * We also require that you score = (B2) or higher on the Cambridge English Assessment.
If we conclude that a student does not possess a sufficient mastery of the English language during this course, we reserve the right to administratively withdraw the student. In this event, your advisor will contact you by phone and e-mail to inform you of this unfortunate matter. You will also be refunded at 100% for any and all tuition fees paid.
What is your English teaching philosophy?
We believe that the classroom should prepare students for the real life/ world experiences. English for a Lifetime stresses the importance of survival English, and we believe that English language classes should be both effective and interactive. We believe that teachers must make learning fun, practical, and understand the value of balancing the difference between making class challenging, depending on the English language being taught. Furthermore, we believe that a teacher must adapt to different situations, whether it means transitioning from teaching in the classroom to e-learning/online platforms.
Even though I’m not a native English speaker, can I still take TEFL classes?
Of course, it is recommended that your level of English be advanced, but any person who possess a strong mastery of the English language can teach the English language across the globe.
Do I need to purchase a book before taking the TEFL class?
Yes.! You must purchase the textbook titled, Teaching English as a foreign language, 4th edition. You cannot complete this course without the required this required textbook. ** Textbook ISBN: 13: 978-1111351694
How long will it take for me to complete the TEFL class?
You have six months to complete all online coursework.
Because the program consists of 120 study hours, you should create a serious study plan in order to achieve your TEFL/TESOL certification goal.
What should I expect in each learning unit?
Coursework consists of 14 units. Each until involves intense reading, written discussion questions/ responses and a unit exam. To advance from unit to unit, you must score a 90% or higher at the end of each unit exam.
How the Course Works
After you are admitted into English for a Lifetime’s TEFL/TESOL program . . .
1. You will receive an e-mail to set up a zoom phone call with your new academic advisor (AA) Your AA will be your primary person of contact as you progress through the course.
2. You will receive an e-mail payment link from STRIPE, our credit card processor to submit your course fee. We accept any and all major credit/ debit cards. Cash is not accepted.
3. Your TEFL/TESOL course is administered through TALENT LMS, and you can access the course on any computer device so long as there is a stable internet (Wi-Fi) connection to do so.
The primary goals of this online 120 TEFL/TESOL course are to provide you with the knowledge, methods, practices, and confidence for teaching English as a second or foreign language. You will exit this course ready to teach the English language in any classroom across the globe or online.
The goal of this 120 hour online TEFL/TESOL course is to train individuals to teach the English language among diverse English language learners (ELLs). Teachers who successfully complete this course will have gained both a theoretical and practical foundation for effective English language teaching and certified to teach the English language across the world.
This online 120 hour TEFL/TESOL course consists of 14 separate learning units. Each learning unit is guided by the required textbook for the course (See below).
This course requires you to rent or to purchase the textbook titled, Teaching English as a second or foreign language. Students will explore language teaching methods and approaches throughout history until present day.
Language Skills/Listening Pedagogy
Students will explore and identify various instructional approaches to teaching listening among diverse groups of English language learners.
Students will explore and identify various instructional approaches to teaching pronunciation among diverse groups of English language learners.
Teaching school – aged Learners
Students will explore and identify the characteristics of K-12 English language learners and identify /implement specific instructional strategies for teaching this student population.
Students will explore and identify various instructional approaches to teaching writing skills among diverse groups of English language learners.
Students will explore and identify various instructional approaches to teaching English grammar among diverse groups of English language learners.
Assessment in Second Language Classrooms
Students will explore several critical approaches for assessing and testing English language learners.
Students will explore and identify several approaches to lesson planning and implementation in the ESL/ESOL classroom.
In this unit, students will create several lesson plans on various topics, pertaining to teaching the English language.
Digital Technology in Language Teaching
Students will explore and identify various technologies for instructing English language learners.
Tasked Based Teaching and Learning
Students will explore and identify various instructional approaches to authentic language teaching among English language learners.
Motivation in Second Language Teaching
Students will explore and identify several strategies for motivating English language learners both intrinsically and extrinsically.
Teaching Adult Learners
Students will explore and identify the characteristics of adult English language learners and identify /implement specific instructional strategies for teaching this group of learners.
The Reflective Practitioner
Students will explore and develop various methods for becoming an intentional and reflective teacher in the ESL/ESOL field.
Teaching Practicum & Digital Portfolio
In this unit , students will teach (4) twenty minute lessons on various English language topics. Students will receive a rubric with teaching expectations and will receive feedback on each topic taught.
Furthermore, students will submit a digital portfolio, which will be assessed by your advisor. Students must score a 90% or higher on their digital portfolio for full completion of unit 14. A rubric will be provided along with support and guidance from your advisor.
You will receive formal evaluation on the following:
1. Observed and assessed teaching practice
2. Effective lesson plan creation and implementation
3. End of unit exam. Each study unit ends with a ten question exam covering all reading content from the unit. You must score 90% on the exam to advance from unit to unit.
4. Discussion board and reflection activities from each study unit.
This TEFL/TESOL course covers 120 hours of academic content. The length of time to complete the course varies from student to student; however, the course must be complete within six months from the date of your first login. The system will automatically generate your course end date after your first login. To complete this course in six months, we recommend that you commit 4 to six hours weekly of study time. In the event that you cannot complete your course within six months, you can request a temporary course hold/student withdrawal, which will last for 45 days.
Upon completing your TEFL/TESOL course, you will receive a 120 TEFL/TESOL certificate of Educational Studies and your complete course transcript. *** Your achievement of this 120 hour TEFL/TESOL certificate will evidence you as a trained ESL/ESOL teacher.
Accreditation We are currently in the process of obtaining accreditation with ACTDEC, the Accreditation Council for Accrediting Distant Education Courses as a "LEVEL 3 TEFL/TESOL Certificate Course"
Course Dates and Fees
You may start your course as soon as you have been successfully admitted into the TEFL/TESOL online program. You will be notified by e-mail and your new academic advisor (AA).
After your Course
It is our number one priority to graduate students who are ready to teach the English language with full confidence across the globe. To ensure that this priority is met, we offer an additional 1 year of no cost online professional development. Only students who have successfully completed their TEFL/TESOL course and have been awarded their TEFL/TESOL certificate can participate in the annual professional development training.
Professional development training will be held on the third Sunday of each month for two hours. If you are unable to attend, you will be given access, via e-mail, to watch the training at another time, but we strongly encourage graduates to participate as you will be able to ask the teaching professor questions in real time.

Current Course Fee (2020)
The current course fee is $100, but this fee may change in the future, so we are encouraging all prospective students to take advantage of this special course price. Additionally, your required textbook will cost between $ 15.00 up to $50.00, depending on your choice to rent or purchase the textbook.
1. You will receive a full refund in the event that this course is cancelled for any reason.
2. You may request a full refund up to your 3rd course login. At the fourth login, no refund shall be granted. Submit a refund request to the following e-mail:

1. As a student, you have the right to stop online course work due to unforeseen circumstances.
2. To request a temporary withdrawal, you must submit a written statement, indicating reasons for requesting a temporary withdrawal to the following e-mail address:
3. You are given a total of 45 calendar days after your temporary course withdrawal to resume to your online course work.
4. Your tuition fees will be placed on hold so long as you return to your online coursework within and up to 45 days.
5. On the 46th day of your temporary withdrawal period, you will be administratively withdrawn from the program, and no refund will be issued. You will also have to submit new documentation for consideration of re-entry into this 120 hours online TEFL/TESOL program.
6. Temporary withdrawals are granted once annually.
As a student, you have the right to report any and all concerns that may impact your progression in this course. Therefore, we have specific procedures for you to follow if you ever encounter an issue that needs administrative support.
1. Immediately contact your advisor by e-mail. Your advisor will contact you within one business day to discuss the issue and to work towards a viable solution.
2. If your advisor cannot come to a solution with you, your advisor will immediately contact the program's assistant administrator. The administrator will contact you within one business day after he or she has been notified of the issue.
3. Depending of the severity of the issue, the administrator, along with your student advisor, will arrange a virtual or on campus meeting to discuss the issue at hand. The ultimate goal, however, is to ensure that the issue or concern is fully resolved.
Code of Ethics
Every member of English for a Lifetime Language Institute must, at all times, conduct his or her activities, on campus and online, in accordance with the highest professional and ethical standards. We expect that every TEFL/TESOL teacher in training submit and complete all assignments independent of any other parties. Furthermore, as an academic community, we expect every TEFL/TESOL teacher in training display the utmost respect towards each, including all internal stakeholders. Finally, we require that TEFL/TESOL teachers in training refrain, at all times, from promoting conversations that fall out of scope with the teaching and learning of English language learners. For example, dialogue that involve(s) religious, social, political views, opinions, or persuasions - we deem inappropriate.
